Stress Buster: Action Plans

Whether you are the practice owner or one of the team, there are certain actions that must be accomplished on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis.  Some are standard actions, such as paying bills on a certain day each month for example.  Others are one time only actions such as calling back a patient for one reason or another.

One of the most efficient ways to get the daily action plan done is to make a list of what needs to be done, visualize how long it will take to accomplish each item on the list and how much effort will be involved, then put the items in a sensible sequence that will be the most efficient.  Put a little box or line in front of each item for you to tick off as you get them done.

You may even have the last item be a prize for yourself IF and WHEN you complete the entire list that day.  As you get each action done, have fun ticking it off on the list (some people like to use coloured pens or markers to do this so it is more amusing).

If an action requires a lot of sub-steps, and if it might take more than one day to do them all, just put the sub-steps on the list that you CAN do that day, and tick them off as you do each one.
If you REALLY get into this, you may find yourself staying that couple of extra minutes at the end of the day to achieve your goal of all items DONE!  Then you can go home feeling like to had a successful day.  You will leave the office behind and enjoy your evening or weekend without the nagging in the back of your mind about the things you didn’t get done.
