There is a famous saying: “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
So true. You can get into a rut where life and work can become a monotonous routine where you just keep putting one foot in front of the other and trudging along and not really making forward progress. You may even have lost sight of your own goals and desires. No advancement … and boring.
STEPPING OUT OF THE RUT:
1. The first step is to RECOGNIZE that you are IN a rut. Are you happy with the way everything is in your personal or professional life? Take the blinders off and be totally ruthless with yourself in examining all aspects and see whether you are truly happy with the way things are right now.
2. Now DECIDE what your ideal vision is for the situation. What do you really want to achieve or have at the end of the day? In other words, what are your for REAL goals? Write them down.
3. DEMAND of yourself that you go for these goals and changes. Only you can motivate yourself, and you DO have it in yourself to DO IT.
4. WORK OUT how to get started and take the first step. It might help to set aside a half hour each day cast in concrete to work on these goals.
